Delving into the divide: how ideological differences fuel out-party hostility in a multi-party context

چکیده
Abstract This study investigates to what extent affective polarization, and more specifically hostility towards opposing party supporters, finds its roots in ideological differences. We look into the way out-groups are constructed when there than two political parties, at role of ideology this process. Hereby we position ourselves discussion between those who argue that polarization root strongly group attachments vs. it is mostly rooted conduct our context highly fragmented multi-party system Belgium which enables us analytically disentangle label cues from distance. Our findings demonstrate largely differences electorates Belgium. Additionally, find particularly holds for citizens ideologically invested, namely with higher interest extreme views.

Moderation of an ideological party
It is a common fear in many countries that ideological parties will come to power through elections but will implement extreme policies. Many countries cope with this problem by overriding the election results when such parties are elected. We demonstrate that the alternative approach of containing these parties within the democratic system is more effective. We show that, as the probability of...

Predicting users political party in social media has important impacts on many real world applications such as targeted advertising, recommendation and personalization. Several political research studies on it indicate that political parties’ ideological beliefs on sociopolitical issues may influence the users political leaning. In our work, we exploit users’ ideological stances on controversia...
متن کاملMulti-Party Quantum Dialogue with the Capability to Expand the Number of Users at Runtime
Quantum dialogue is a type of quantum communication in which users can simultaneously send messages to each other. The earliest instances of quantum dialogue protocols faced security problems such as information leakage and were vulnerable to intercept and resend attacks. Therefore, several protocols have been presented that try to solve these defects. Despite these improvements, the quantum di...
متن کاملMulti-party Finite Computations
We consider systems consisting of a finite number of finite automata which communicate by sending messages. We consider number of messages necessary to recognize a language as a complexity measure of the language. We feel that these considerations give a new insight into computational complexity of problems computed by read-only devices in multiprocessor systems. Our considerations are related ...
متن کاملMulti-party Quantum Computation
We investigate definitions of and protocols for multi-party quantum computing in the scenario where the secret data are quantum systems. We work in the quantum information-theoretic model, where no assumptions are made on the computational power of the adversary. For the slightly weaker task of verifiable quantum secret sharing, we give a protocol which tolerates any t < n/4 cheating parties (o...
